Dwyllis Harrison > Beautiful Native Americans ......
The Reading by Republican Senator Sam Brownback, who was one of the instigatorsof the Resolution of Apology to the Native Americans, which was Signed Into Law by President Obama on Dec 19. 2009, was a step in a positive direction for the Tribes present (Choctaw, Cherokee, Muscogee CreeK, & Pawnee) ..... Tribal representatives shook Senator Brownback's hand, & many accepted the apology on behalf of their Tribes ......Brownback, addressing Native Americans directly, said, "There is a rich history here, & there is a past wrong ... the U.S. Govt. saw Native Americans not as people, but as a problem. This apology is an effort to start a reconciliation process to rebuild relations & it starts now." .......The apology, which includes seven acknowledgement & apology points on behalf of the U.S., acted through Congress, to the Native peoples of the U.S., is for the "years of official depradations, ill-concieved policies, & the breaking of convenants by the Federal Government ...... the many instances of violence, maltreatment, & neglect inflicted on Native peoples ....... & expresses regret for the ramifications of former wrongs, & its commitment to build on the positive relationships of the past & present, to move toward a bright future when all the people of this land live reconciled as brothers & sisters." ..........."Today, we take dignity from the Native's eyes. That dignity is taking a long step in being restored," Holden said. "And from this day, we all will do many important things together. It starts here with this apology, this long process. This is a historic event in the history of this nation." ..........

Many of us have never heard of this apology in 2009. I am extremely grateful 2 know that the government has officially recognized and apologized to all the Native Americans past present and future and setup the starting point 4 official reconciliation and peace.

I don't think this was something that was well publicized, as I don't know anyone who has heard of it. This reading of the apology was done at a private ceremony in Washington D.C. My late mother always told us children "Actions, speak louder than words" .... & the sad truth is that I have not seen a lot done to alleviate the third world conditions that many people on Reservations are living in ..... & then look at the brutality of police & national guard against the Water Protectors at Standing Rock ...... & the American Govt. did not intervene to stop it. Maybe this apology is like all the treaties ..... empty words that mean nothing ...... broken promises ....

The silent majority in this nation have been awakened by the conflict s of the recent presidential election. It is possible that the momentum created by this, combined with the energies awakened by the North Dakota pipeline controversy, will generate enough support throughout this nation to push and propel the Compassion needed for facilitating the peace process! We must educate the public! I truly believe that EDUCATION of the public is mandatory for this PEACE process to succeeed. Also feel that the School HISTORY books must reflect and teach ALL children of this country about our Native American history and founding of
America!

Pat Gilch Yes, I agree .... the general public must now somehow, be educated, because for generations, American children have been taught that Native Americans were the baddies, & were a people to be frightened of. Undoing that damage, is not going to be so easy, but it can be done to some degree, & I think it has already begun, with the internet full of videos for people to watch, if they are seeking to know the truth. And interest & support for Native Americans from around the globe, is going to help too.

Well this apology was Never made public, to my knowledge .... it was given in a private ceremony with just the chiefs of four tribes present. So although it appears to have been passed as a legal thing, I don't know if any other tribes were notified of it.

When we ask for an apology, we must show the true act. Like a reconcilicacion and Cultural Restoration. All whole the world must know it !
